What is Graphite Packing (Graphi-Braid)?
Graphite Packing is specialty treated flexible graphite yarn braided into graphite compression packing. The flexible graphite yarn is made from exfoliated high purity crystalline mineral graphite while maintaining all the characteristics of mineral graphite.
Types of Graphite Packing.
Graphi-Braid 1000 – Braided from high purity flexible graphite yarn with a high temperature inorganic carrier. This is the standard flexible style made of 100% graphite packing with an interlocking braid construction, excluding a few small sizes.
- Working Temperature
- Fully Exposed to air: 850 ℉
- In steam or other mild oxidation medium: 1800 ℉
- In a non-oxidizing media: 5400 ℉
- pH: 0-14
- Pressure: ≤3700 psi
- Shaft speeds: ≤4000 feet per minute
Graphi-Braid 1000W – Braided from high purity flexible graphite yarn with an Inconel Wire insert interlocking braid construction, excluding a few small sizes.
- Working Temperature
- Fully Exposed to air: 850 ℉
- In steam or other mild oxidation medium: 2000 ℉
- In a non-oxidizing media: 5400℉
- pH: 0-14
- Pressure: ≤4400 psi
- Shaft speeds: ≤4000 feet per minute
Graphi-Braid 1000C – Braided from high purity flexible graphite yarn on the body and reinforced with carbon fiber on the corners. The braid is interlocking and treated with a corrosion inhibitor for prevention of galvanic corrosion.
- Working Temperature
- Fully exposed to air: 850 ℉
- In steam and other mild oxidation medium: 1800 ℉
- In a non-oxidizing media: 5400℉
- pH: 0-14
- Pressure: ≤ 4000 psi
- Shaft Speed: ≤ 4000 feet per minute
Benefits
- Heat and chemical resistant.
- Pliable and conformable.
- Resilient and thermally conductive.

Applications
- Pumps and valves in a wide range of temperatures, chemicals, and pressures.
- Square Compression packing, and gasketing.
- Used to seal rotating shafts and furnaces.
